Language (ভাষা) is a way (উপায়) of human (মানবিক) communication (যোগাযোগ). And the ability (ক্ষমতা/যোগ্যতা) to use (ব্যবহার করা) any language is called the language skill (দক্ষতা). All human beings (প্রাণী/মানুষ) acquire (অর্জন করে) this skill from their respective (নিজ নিজ) environment (পরিবেশ). That is, human babies begin (শুরু করে) to acquire this language skill from just after (পরে) their birth (জন্ম). If this process continues (অব্যাহত থাকে) without (ছাড়া) any obstruction (বাধা), a baby can communicate (যোগাযোগ করতে) with the people of the same language smoothly (সহজে/সাবলীলভাবে) within 3 to 4 years. During this period (সময়কাল), the baby does not need (দরকার) to read (পড়া) or write (লেখা) for acquiring the language skill. The baby only goes on (চালিয়ে যায়) listening (শোনা), speaking (বলা), picking up (গ্রহণ করা/শেখা) words. This process is called acquisition (অর্জন) of language and this acquisition mostly (অধিকাংশ ক্ষেত্রে) takes place (ঘটে) while learning (শেখা) one’s first language (প্রথম ভাষা). We acquire the language skill of Bangla in this process. This is why, Bangla is called our first language.
